Child and Family Counselling Services (CFC) Base on an assessment, staff from Child and Family Counselling Services provides a range of evidence based and evidence informed counselling services for referred children and their families. Most children who are seen by a Counsellor have significant mental health concerns. These mental health concerns are seen in cognitive, social, emotional, developmental and/or behavioural area. Their families may also struggle with relationships, parenting and communication as well as other external factors which affect the child and family’s well being. Services include Service Coordination, Family Therapy, Individual Therapy, Group Therapy, Parent Education and Workshops. The Centre staff are able to refer Centre clients for assessment by a consultant Psychiatrist and/or Psychologist. Intensive Child and Family Service (ICFS) ICFS is avaialable for children and families who can benefit from a service that is flexible in time and location, more frequent, may have more hours per meeting, and which helps the child and family in a very focussed and short term way. Services are very practical, hands on and may be provided in homes, schools and the community. Appointment times are set to meet the family’s schedule. Services are strength based and family centred, and individualized according to the child's needs. Mental Health Treatment for Children Birth to 6 This program provides treatment services for young children who are at risk for or are showing early signs of mental health issues. Parents and caregivers are key partners in the success of this service. Services are flexible in time and location and may be in the home, day care or community setting. Service provision may include Parent focussed counselling alone or with the child, Parent – Child Groups and Parenting Workshops. Day School Milieu Treatment Program (DSMTP) The Centre provides Day School Milieu Treatment for children whose cognitive, social, emotional and behavioural needs are so significant that they cannot manage in a regular school setting. There are three programs for children aged 7 to 12 located on site at the Centre and two programs for younger children in a local community school. DSMTP offers a comprehensive developmental and psychosocial assessment, a structured therapeutic program, child and family counselling and an educational component with qualified special education teachers from the Toronto District School Board. Children in the DSMTP have access to consultation from a Psychologist and Psychiatrist. Referrals for DSMTP must have the support of the Child’s school. Parents must also be actively involved in counselling and in the Program. Toronto Partnership Autism Service TPAS is a partnership of five agencies working together to provide Intensive Behavioural Intervention for children who have a diagnosis of Autism. The Etobicoke Children's Centre delivers service to children living in the west quadrant of Toronto. Toronto Autism ABA Services Toronto Autism ABA Services is a partnership of agencies providing programs to assist children and youth with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to build skills in the areas of communication, behaviour management/emotional regulation, social/interpersonal and daily living. The service provides education to parents and caregivers in a group setting. The West End Sexual Abuse Treatment Program (WESAT) Through a partnership of West Toronto Service Providers, WESAT brokers and facilitates the provision of evidence based and evidence informed assessment and treatment services for West Toronto children who have experienced sexual abuse as well as women who were childhood victims of sexual abuse. The Children's Program facilitates referrals for assessment, individual and family treatment to local children’s mental health agencies. Consultation is also available through peer supervision as well as a consultant with expertise in the treatment of Sexual Abuse. The Female Adult Survivor Program facilitates referrals and services to local service providers for individual and group counselling. |
