Privacy

As a health information custodian, The ECC complies with "PHIPA” (2004) which defines expectations regarding the Use, Protection, Privacy, Security, Disposal, Right to Disclosure and Right of Access/Correction with respect to the personal health information collected from our clients. Complete information regarding The Centre’s Privacy Policy and Procedures is available through from The Centre’s staff.

Confidentiality

The Centre keeps all information provided/receive confidential unless given informed consent by a parent/legal guardian who is authorized to provide this consent or where required by law. All Centre staff, students, and volunteers sign a statement indicating that information they receive about you and your family will be confidential. Sometimes it is helpful to receive information from another service provider that may current or had been previously involved. Information is requested only with informed consent and the purpose of the request is usually to provide effective service planning and coorindation. Informed consents are valid up to one year and may be cancelled or withdrawn at any time.

Exceptions to informed consent are made in the following cases: mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse, in response to a subpoena or court order or when a person is at risk of serious harm.

The Centre provides training opportunities for students and interns from universities and colleges with whom we have formal agreements for education and training. From time to time, staff may also ask to observe each other’s work for the purpose of professional development or to receive another opinion. Client interviews will not be observed or recorded unless informed permission is received by the client.

Complaints

Clients have a right to voice a concern or complaint regarding their services, the facility or about a staff person. Clients are encourage to voice their complaint directly to the person involved or may alternately request the involvement of a Supervisor, Manager or the Executive Director. Clients may request a copy of The Centre’s Policies regarding Privacy and Complaints. Service Providers will explain The Centre's "Privacy" and "Complaints" Policies in greater depth and clients are welcome to ask questions.
