The Etobicoke Children's Centre recognizes the individual's right to privacy. The Centre is committed to protecting the privacy of its clients, employees, volunteers, donors and any other individuals with whom it has contact.
The agency will collect only that personal information which is required by legislation and/or is relevant to the work of the agency. The purpose for which information is collected shall be identified in advance of collection.
Information shall be collected with permission, expressed or implied. If the agency intends to use personal information for a purpose not previously identified, the agency will obtain the individual's prior consent. The agency may, however, use or disclose personal information without consent in a life threatening situation or where required by law.
Permission to collect, use and disclose personal information may be withdrawn at any time.
Where a client chooses not to provide the agency with permission to collect, use or disclose personal information, the agency may not have sufficient information to provide services to the client. Where an employee, volunteer or candidate for employment chooses not to provide the agency with permission to collect, use or disclose personal information, the agency may not have sufficient information to employ the individual or provide the individual with benefits.
Information is stored in such a way as to ensure its security. Access to information is restricted to employees and agents of The Etobicoke Children's Centre on a "need to know" basis. All possible measures will be taken to protect information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. When information is to be destroyed, the agency will ensure that unauthorized parties are prevented form gaining access to the information during the process.
Individuals have the right to access their personal information to ensure that it is correct and current. If the information is inaccurate or incomplete, the necessary changes will be made.
Personal information including, but not limited to information about donors, will not be sold.
Only the domain name, not the email address of visitors to our website will be collected.
The Etobicoke Children's Centre will appoint a Privacy Officer to ensure compliance with this policy and relevant legislation. The Privacy Officer will also be responsible for receiving complaints and taking appropriate action. The Privacy Officer will prepare an annual report to the Board of Directors with respect to compliance, number and nature of complaints and actions taken.
