Enhancements to the Ontario Autism Program

The Minister of Children, Community and Social Services announced enhancements made to the Ontario Autism Program that included changes to the childhood budgets, expanding eligible services and allowing for a proper transition for families who currently have an Ontario Autism Program Behaviour Plan.

The Minister did reiterate that the new Ontario Autism Program is still scheduled to be launched April 1st, 2019.  We understand that families still have plenty of questions and we will continue to provide information as we receive it.

Changes to the Ontario Autism Program

On February 6th the Minister of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) announced changes to the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) effective April 1st, 2019. Please follow these links for more information:

We understand that this period of transition is very difficult for families however, The Etobicoke Children’s Centre remains committed to providing high quality services to families and it is our priority to support families through this period of change.

In response to the government changes to the OAP, The Etobicoke Children’s Centre is developing a range of fee based behavioural services and supports to meet the individualized needs of children and youth with autism and their families.  We would like to hear from you about the kinds of services that are important to you and that you would like to receive from The Etobicoke Children's Centre.  We will be posting a survey on our website shortly and hope that you will provide us with your feedback.

Please contact the ministry’s Central Intake and Registration team at 1-888-444-4530 to register a child in the program or for inquiries regarding your Childhood Budget, funding agreement, payments to families and service providers and/or reconciliation of a Childhood Budget.

Autism Ontario is offering orientation and system navigation supports to families who are accessing or interested in accessing the Ontario Autism Program. They will be offering workshops, training sessions and individual direct support. You can visit the Autism Ontario website or contact Autism Ontario staff at 1-800-472-7789.  Please note, Autism Ontario will not be involved in registration, intake, waitlist management or funding distribution for the Ontario Autism Program.

If you are currently receiving Ontario Autism Program services in the Toronto Region, you may continue to contact your current service provider and/or the former single point of access Surrey Place Centre at 416-925-5141  for questions related to your behaviour plan or to contact your Family Support Worker until your behaviour plan ends.
